done! (because it's a race and all)

It was a really busy weekend.

That is, if by "busy" you mean "busy reading 4,000 pages of yesteryear's hottest teenager vampire romance novels." Then yes, I was busy. But I finished!! All four books (and 3/5 movies) in 10 days. That's pretty impressive when you consider that I also work full time and occasionally like to stop to eat and breathe.

And help this one put animals into and out of Noah's ark.

This is actually the only picture I took the ENTIRE WEEKEND. I have failed at life.
I must say, though. I really enjoyed the Twilight saga. Especially the ending. Go ahead and judge me, but I really appreciate and crave a happy (or at least satisfying) ending when I've committed this much time to caring about a bunch of characters. Most YA trilogies/sagas utterly fail me there. I'm basically used to getting to the end and then wishing I'd stopped about three chapters earlier and just made up my own satisfying ending. But Twilight was good to the last drop, so to speak, so kudos to Stephenie Meyer. I have the last two movies ready to watch, and I also grabbed the Eclipse novella while I was at the library so that I can spend another 200 pages hanging out in Forks...why not, right? Oh, and I'm going to read Midnight Sun. And THEN I'll be really done. Just in time to read my book for book club this weekend. We're discussing Unbroken, which shouldn't be at all different from my other reading lately, ha. But don't worry- I'm going to try hard to drag the discussion around to Twilight!!

I had a mini-book club in the break room at work today during lunch. Luckily, several of my coworkers are fellow avid YA saga readers, so we had an excellent discussion about some of our favorites. I'm trying to pick what saga to tackle next, and as boring as it may seem, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to reread Harry Potter. I know I mentioned this a few months ago, but I still think it's my best bet. I need to read more slowly this time and actually absorb more. But I might wait til I go to the beach this summer to do it. Patience, grasshopper.

In non-book news...ummm...well, there's not much. We haven't slept in a few nights, so that's something new. Millie hasn't put us through that since she was about 6 weeks old, so I'm sorely out of practice...but she's been running a fever, and apparently fevers and sleep don't mix. We got her to the doc today and discovered that she has a sinus infection, which is something that I definitely did not think babies could get. It sounds so old! Anyway, that's the explanation for the fever and general fussiness, so hopefully her delicious pink amoxicillin will get everything cleared up and she'll feel better soon. Oh, and she'll sleep.

Don't worry, though- when she isn't burning alive or refusing to be put down, she's up to her regularly scheduled adorable antics. My current favorite, of course, is babbling mamamamama. I'm pretty sure that nothing will ever beat that. Oh, except for when she says mamamama while reaching her arms up to me. Be still my little heart.

And that about wraps up some of the least exciting (to you!) days ever. Oh! I did take a few hours out of my busy reading/snuggling schedule to go to Amanda's baby shower yesterday!! Naturally, I didn't take any pictures (because I was busy talking to friends about Twilight, of course), but I can promise you that it made my heart SO very happy to be celebrating Amanda and sweet (and adorable!! and blonde-eyelashed!) Garrison. Sometimes it blows my mind that we've both brought home our miracle babies within seven months of each other. It's just crazy. The best kind of crazy.

And now I'm off to watch Breaking Dawn Part 1, because a girl's gotta have priorities, you see. Have a great week!

  1. You should check out the Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson . My boys loved the first two books, and we are waiting for the library to hook us up with the last two.

  2. Just think in 16 years Millie can read and watch Twilight, too!!!
Every time you post a picture of Millie I can't help but notice how big she's getting. Sitting up, playing all by herself...she looks so independent. Hard to believe she's the same little baby you brought home from the hospital.

  3. You should check out The City of Ember. It was so good! I had to read it for one of my education classes and I was hooked. The second wasn't as good and I never made it through the third, but the first was AMAZING!!!

  4. Wait! Millie isn't giving 12 uninterrupted hours of sleep?!? My gosh, she must be REALLY miserable!

Also, you should TOTALLY reread HP. I'm sure I've already told you this, but I used to start the series over each year when a new book came out. That generally coincided with summer, so even when s book didn't come out, I just reread them each summer... forike 10 years. So yeessss to rereading. You'll love it 10,000 times more.

  5. I'm with ya on some good ole fashion YA reading - I finished Hunger Games, immediately dragged James to Publix to get the movie from Redbox, forced him to watch it (and got furious at him when he fell asleep, only to wake up and say "WHY are the kids killing each other, I don't like this movie"), and already half way through Catching Fire. My work is so crazy and it's severely impacting my reading time. :)

I can't wait to finish and finally be able to bring back up conversations I heard (but didn't understand) 4 years ago….

  6. Colby got a sinus infection around that age and I thought it was strange, too! He, too, is enjoying amoxicillin right now, but acts like he's going to refuse it and makes us fight him before he'll take it (but then sucks it down), so that's neat. Hope Millie feels better... and learns how to read vampire novels soon!

  7. Have you read the Matched trilogy. First one was really good, second one was okay (typical sophomore slump), but the third one definitely didn't disappoint. I can't decide if I liked that one or Legend better, so that should tell you something... I seriously get GIDDY at the thought of reading Harry Potter with Trent. We tried it maybe a year ago (I knew he wasn't ready but he wanted to try), and 1 page in, he'd asked me 27 questions and was frustrated there weren't any pictures. But now we read chapter books together (although seriously kid ones...Magic Treehouse - which he is obsessed with and Charlotte's Web), so I think we might try HP again soon-ish. I worry he might not quite be ready for some of the subject-matter, so I will still probably wait a while, but I CAN'T WAIT! Sorry for once again leaving you a book as a comment!

  8. I've reread Harry Potter 3 times and I still enjoy every drop of it! There's just so much to read and pay attention to so I always noticed something I didn't before. I definitely need to step up my reading game though - mindless TV has won the past few weeks!

  11. Ah I didn't get to finish. More importantly, so sorry about sweet little Millie. Hope she's back up to par ASAP!

  12. I love that Noah's Ark toy, we had it in the nursery at church and I loved playing with it! I don't remember how Twilight ended but now I want to look it up and see if I liked it as much as you did. Have you read The Selection series? Those ones are pretty good. :)

  13. I just finished the second book of the Legend series by Marie Lu, which was sort of Hunger-Games-ish. Have you read those yet? Why do I feel like you have? I do like that Stephanie Meyer gave her characters a happy ending, I just thought the baby was SO WEIRD. Also, that whole last book felt like it was leading up to Carlisle dying, which I totally thought was going to happen and then it didn't, and I was so disappointed. You need like a little sacrifice (Fred, Tonks, Dumbledore, ahem...) to make the scales balance.

  14. Loving your pictures and the brilliant way you have put your story across - you're an inspiration and I am following your journey - awesome work!

  15. Have you read anything by Sara Shepard (like Pretty Little Liars). I am not ashamed to say at 32 I read every book and they were pretty good. Totally different than the show too. I was super sad that she finally finished the series because I always looked forward to the next book coming out!

  16. If you want to read some adult vampire reading I would highly recommend the All Souls' Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. I am on the third book and LOVING it! And I am seriously curious how they get to the ending (which of course, I skipped ahead and looked at already!).

Also, I LOVE re-reading Harry Potter. I try to do that about once every year and a half or so but I usually get stuck at Book 5 (book 5 is my nemesis).

And Unbroken was sooooo good. What did you think of it???

I love comments almost as much as I love Mexican food. Seriously.
