about last night

Lest you start believing I'm actually super cool and spend my Friday nights doing mature adult things, let me set you straight about last night:
You see, Matt's sister Amy (above) is visiting from Vermont this weekend. So we thought we needed to do something really wild and crazy...ya know, show her a good time and all (like she didn't live in Athens the first 23 years of her life or so).
So obviously, we decided to travel back in time and hit up the local SKATING RINK for the night! Sorry for the blurry pictures-- WE WERE ROLLING.
And it would have been completely wrong to leave out Mollyanne, my fellow lover of skating. So she came, too.
...which is how the four of us cool cats (along with Matt's parents!!) ended up spending the evening (okay, barely an hour) at the skating rink in the midst of Teen Night. And it was awesome. And terrifying (all those young buckaroos whizzing around, showing off, weaving through us old folks). And surprisingly exhausting. But a lot of fun.

We were the oldest people (except for one creepy dad) by over a decade, but whatev!! We still made it! I was actually pretty surprised by the number of cool teenagers there. Apparently the skating rink is still what's up. Which is good. Better than video games or killing people or whatever else it is teenagers do these days.

In conclusion, my Friday night was awesome.

The rest of the weekend promises to be pretty awesome as well. Like I said, Amy is here with my beloved nephew Timmy!!

And since he is apparently anti taking pictures with me, I had very limited shots to choose from. So I picked one where he looks cute and I am blurry, because you have plenty of chances to see non-blurry pictures of me. But look how cute my nephew is!! So I plan on stealing all of his giggles and hugs this weekend.

Also, it is FOOTBALL TIME!!! Wooooooo!!!!

 GO DAWGS!!!

Annnd....it is a three-day weekend!! So what's not to love?

Closing and unrelated thought: So about that Odd Life of Timothy Green movie... how insanely dangerous would it be for me to see that? I have it on good authority that I will be doing the Ugly Cry within the first five minutes of the movie, and it basically won't stop until like...hours after the credits roll...and yet somehow I will feel inspired? I just don't know how I feel about that. But supposedly the movie does a fantastic and accurate portrayal of the emotions the infertile couple deal with as they deal with the fact that they will never be able to have children, and handles the whole topic really realistically...so I'd kind of like to see/support that...but then, yeah, the constant tears...don't I already spend enough of my time crying? So I'm a bit torn.

  1. I reaally want to see that movie. I think it looks really beautiful....but there are also YouTube videos of small children ugly crying over it...so maybe wait until it comes out on DVD?

  2. OH MY GOSH. I have wanted to go to a skating rink for forever! Your Friday night was MUCH cooler than mine. I just went to a 30th birthday party at a friend's house. We so should have roller skated.

  3. I'm going to go ahead and disagree with the "cool teenagers" comments. I feel that it was a very niche crowd. Like the semi-cool middle schoolers or something.

I'm thinking if you want to support the movie and not wait for DVD, maybe just wait a few weeks after it's been out and then go to a matinee. That way there's a pretty good chance you'll be the only one in the theater while you ugly cry.

  4. Roller skating?! SO FUN! I went last February with some girlfriends while our men where away for a snowboarding weekend up north...it is a lot more work than I remembered! We went on 25+ night (I know, we thought that was a weird age requirement, too) so we were on the youngest end, but were still being passed and weaved through by the older folks!

    Super cute nephew!

I cry when I see commercials for that movie! I still want to see it, though...my husband, on the other hand, is not sure I should because he knows I will cry THE ENTIRE TIME. Mollyanne's idea of a matinee is not a bad one...just bring big sunglasses to leave the theater in since you won't have the cover of darkness to hide red, puffy eyes. I may do that myself!

  5. Roller skating looks so fun! Our new house is a mile from a place called Skateland. It basically looks like a huge airplane hangar in the middle of a cornfield. We haven't stopped by there yet but now you've inspired me too!

That movie looks really good. I think the matinee idea sounds best if you're afraid of crying a ton. Let us know how it is if you see it! Glad you're feeling better!

  6. And now I totally want to go roller skating! Looks like so much fun! Your nephew is beyond adorable! I want to see that movie too, but Jennifer Garner in Juno made me cry and this is kind of a reprisal of that role, so I'll probably wait on it.

  7. I'm such an ugly ugly-crier...and loud. Will have to wait for DVD on that one. And a long weekend so the next morning when I wake up with puffy eyes and emotionally exhausted I don't have to do anything else!

  8. I REALLY want to see that movie! It would probably be better to wait until it comes out on DVD (read better for other viewers in the theater), but I don't know if I can wait that long. This movie may hold key info on how to grow a child in your garden! As I can't grow a child in my belly, this seems like a possible substitute!

    Happy long weekend!

  9. Roller skating totally reminds me of Grade 4 and holding hands with my first boyfriend! Ha ha ha! And I would totally go again if I had the chance...

Also, I hadn't heard of the movie before but now that I've IMDBd it, I want to see it. When it comes out on DVD and I can cry all I want in the comfort of my own home.

  10. I would die on roller skates. Seriously, I went ice skating like a year ago, and it was freaking painful. And embarrassing, as I ended up going (excuse the french, but there's really only one term for this) ass-over-teakettle onto the ground. It hurt. Like want to cry hurt.

In other news, I would so wait for DVD. The last movie I ugly cried at was the last Harry Potter and my husband just stared at me like I was a weirdo.

I love comments almost as much as I love Mexican food. Seriously.
