a not-particularly-blogworthy week, apparently

This week...whew.

It's been such a whirlwind at work that I'm hard pressed to remember anything else that's happened. Luckily Monday and Tuesday were the worst of it and the days since then have been busy but not miserable...but still. I'm extremely glad it's Friday.

I have managed to squeeze in a few other (mostly uninteresting) things this week.

1. I took two really hard classes at the gym. I've been patting myself on the back for that, cause both times were instances where I'd really much rather just phone it in on an elliptical while zoning out to HGTV for half an hour...but instead, decided to take a really challenging class instead. I think that I deserve to lose 10 pounds automatically just for that, right? Right.

2. We've found, test driven (twice), and contemplated purchasing a new (to us) vehicle.

Why yes I do have a gift for photography, thank you for noticing.
A Honda Pilot (or, you know, anything bigger than our current compact cars) would mean that once the baby comes, we wouldn't have to take multiple vehicles in order to transport two adults, a baby + carseat, a crazed Lab, and all the stuff that all of those people/animals require. It's a very tempting thought. But it's also a very tempting thought to cling fast to all the dollars we can, knowing that we have an adoption and maternity leave to fund in the very near future. Choices, choices.

3. I had the Shaken Iced Blackberry Mojito Tea Lemonade (wow, that's a mouthful) at Starbucks yesterday. It was delightful...almost like drinking a real mojito in the middle of the workday, only not quite. I will warn you, though, that if you're not a huge fan of mint in your drinks...don't get it. The minty-ness is not subtle.

4. I paused my sprint through the Harry Potter series in order to read my book for book club this weekend. We're discussing The Program by Suzanne Young. It was a really quick read. Very YA, very angsty, but I still really enjoyed it. Actually it made me feel stressed and sad...but still, a good read. I was a little confused about where the story was going, but by the time I got to Part 3, I was on board. I would say that if you could find this at your library or on Kindle for less than about $3, it'd be worth it. (Don't worry. Ten minutes after finishing The Program last night, I plunged into Book 6!!)

I've been staring at the blinking cursor for at least 5 minutes now, so I guess it's safe to say I can't think of anything else noteworthy that happened this week. I'm looking forward to a weekend of peace and quiet and reading. You know, the kind of thing that will make for some really thrilling blogging next week...ha. I'm not really setting myself up for success here, am I? Oh well.

Have a happy weekend!

  3. The Pilot was one of the vehicles we were looking at but somehow ended up with a Nissan Armada. I do love a Honda though :) I'm not very Starbucks savy but I was going to get some type of orange drink and she suggested combining that with some type of passion fruit drink? Anyway, it was fabulous!

  4. Ha! The photo got me... I thought you actually BOUGHT a car and called this week un-noteworthy. Test driving is far less noteworthy, so I get it. My mommy car is a Toyota Highlander (I'm a fan of Toyota and NOT a fan of Lexus-ish type vehicle prices)... but let's get real here. My baby's going to cost 30 thousand dollars, so umm, there will be no Highlander, used or otherwise. That's a TOUGH decision you've got there... one that I think I'd fall towards car on, but my financial decisions aren't always the wisest, so take NO advice from me!
I can't wait to read about your BORING, BLAND, HP-filled weekend... I'm living vicariously through you, so do a good job!

    Have a great weekend!

  6. I like your thinking where the hard workout/deserved weight loss ratio is concerned. It took me almost 2 hours to push mow our yard this week--so that's what, at least 3 or 4 lbs? Maybe even 5 when you consider it was almost 90 degrees out?

I've heard rave reviews about the new Starbucks drink, so I might have to try that next time instead of my beloved iced caramel macchiatto. If you want to try it at home (a little more work but a lot less expensive), blackberry lemonade is pretty easy to make and is very delicious...especially when you add a little tequila :)

  7. You really can't go wrong with a Honda. My next car (when I'm ready for another car payment...kind of enjoying not having one right now) will probably be a Honda SUV. Been through a Civic and a CR-V so far; would love to go back to the CR-V or even a Pilot. Time will tell! But I totally understand the hesitation on purchasing...cars, kids, homes, life in general is just so dang expensive. We can't even maintain a legit savings account because there's always something costing us more money. Sigh.

Can't believe how quickly you flew through The Project -- you take "speed reader" to a whole new level! Happy Friday, happy book clubbing, happy weekending!

  8. That Starbucks drink sounds super yummy! And my friends have a Pilot and love it. I have a Kia Optima Hybrid that's leased and am already thinking about the future and comings and goings with a little one in a car. SUV might be the way to go!

  9. Praying this is one of the last weekends of peace and quiet you get for (at least) 18 years! :)

  10. I will be supremely jealous of uti pilot if you get it. However, I say wait as long as you can before biting the bullet and spending $$$. We've made it two years with two smallish cars, a little one (almost two years old), and two pups. It isn't the most convenient, but nothing seems convenient when you start dealing wth car seats and such. :). But feel free to disregard my advice as I am crazy cheap!

  11. **should be your, not uti pilot. My typing is terrible!

  12. I think that if I blogged this week it'd be nothing but a list of whines and things I don't like (those things being magnified more than usual because I'm so tired). I can't even remember what I did on Monday, and my highlights last night were cooking a sweet potato and cleaning my dishwasher. Hmm. Maybe I DO have some blog fodder after all...

  13. Not sure if you remember, but we got a Pilot before the twins were born and have loved it so far! And yes, ditto to Allison- praying your free time is soon very blissfully gone!

  14. We need to buy a new car, too!! Right now we're fitting all 3 car seats in one row in our Explorer. So lame, but having to pay money for a new car when we have cars that work is even lamer. More lame? Anyways, I feel your pain on that one. Too bad cars aren't free.

  15. My friends hubby has the pilot, she sometimes drives it. I love it!! Super huge and roomy inside. they have a massive labradoodle and it has plenty of room for him. my fave part though was how big the front seats were, we took our best car selfie in that pilot!!

  16. We bought a pilot last summer... And it looks to be pretty close (year/model) to the one pictured. Despite initially hating my husband for buying it, I've grown to really appreciate it. Maybe.... Just maybe.... He was... Uh... Right?

  17. My brother has a pilot and loves it. Is even thinking of getting a newer one. Gas saver too.

  18. I have to say I am really impressed with how quickly you got through the Harry Potter series! Also, kudos for doing two real workouts. After a crazy week I wouldn't have worked out at all, let alone pushed myself. But I'm also kind of lazy like that :)
