another riveting weekend!

We had a relaxing and uneventful weekend- which is evidenced by the fact that I had the time and motivation to blog on Saturday, ha. So if you're like most of the world and apparently don't read (or write) blogs on weekends, be sure to catch up on Millie's nursery tour from Saturday! Or don't. I mean, if you hate cute rooms, you won't like it.

We spent some time on Friday night introducing Millie to her new toy that a friend loaned us!

That face can't lie- this thing is like a rager for babies. And an eyesore for adults. Once I finished photographing the nursery, we moved this thing back there and now just imagine a giant plastic contraption plopped down in front of the window, blocking the closet door, Lola's access to the window, and all the good feng shui vibes we had going. Oh well. At least Millie has big fun playing in it!

We took advantage of the cold weather and not having any plans and spent lots of time lounging around in our PJs. It was pretty miserable, obviously.

Blurry, but this adorable face is worth it!
A couple of weeks ago we got rid of our DirecTV. It felt pretty traumatic at the time, but less so when I take into consideration that a) they kept taking away all the channels we liked anyway (like AMC- with no Walking Dead, what's the point in cable anyway?), b) we will save lots of money, and c) Netflix added a lot of HGTV shows, so I can still get my fix. After an initial period of mourning, now we don't even miss it much- the exceptions being when there are awesome football games that we can't find online to watch. Anyway, a few weeks ago Matt ordered some fancy-shmancy alien-looking antennae thing in hopes that we can pick up some over-the-air channels. In theory that wouldn't be hard, but all of the stations we could theoretically get are from Atlanta, and it's just too far to pick them up well. We've had antennae in the past that failed to get anything except a very grainy Spanish channel...and while I enjoyed trying to translate telenovelas for about 10 minutes, it really wasn't that great.

But Matt remained convinced that with the proper antennae and the right rooftop installation, we could get some TV. And on Saturday, after some death-defying walks across the roof and up and down ladders, he proved himself correct!! We now have a handful of stations that are unbelievable high-def and clear!! It's so exciting- we got to see actual live sporting events!! (And possibly more importantly- I will be able to keep up with The Bachelor/ette when it starts back!) And it seems that about half the stations we get primarily air old westerns, so if you notice me taking a new interest in movie genres...that's why.

Anyway. High five to Matt for persevering through my disbelief and also for his ingenuity in rigging up the new antennae through our old DirecTV satellite and wiring so that there aren't cables running across the house and through windows!

Sunday called for kicking Millie's wardrobe up a little notch. And repeatedly dying over her cuteness.

Seriously, Mom? MORE pictures? Get a life, woman!

She expressed her appreciation for my impeccable sense of style by gifting me with some new accessories.

That's right- my hair and shirt look way better adorned in spit-up!

To offset my gross accessories, I gave myself a ridiculous manicure last night.

Wine color-Essie Bahama Mama; Sparkles-Essie Jazzy Jubilant
My fancy nails are completely unnecessary thrilling me to death, but it's one of those things where as I'm enjoying looking at them, I'm simultaneously thinking about how in a short time (two years? five, max) I will see this picture and groan and say omg, that is SO 2014...what was I thinking?!?! So Future Self, please know that I realize how dumb this trend probably is, but it's harmless enough, so I'll enjoy it while I can. Also, hopefully my future self will have learned how to not paint her cuticles while doing at-home manicures. Present self hasn't mastered that skill yet, clearly.

It's Monday morning, I'm back at work with my baby sleeping beside me (her Monday morning babysitter picks her up here, so she comes in with me for a little while!) and I decided it was time to turn on my Pentatonix Holiday Pandora station. It's gonna be a good day!

  1. Yay for some new TV channels...I would have been sad for you if you had to miss out on Chris' season of The Bachelor!! ;) Also, I'm so NOT a fan of that silly nail polish trend either, but you better believe I add sparkles to that ring finger every time. haha Our future selves will definitely look back on that one and laugh!

  2. I can't get over the outfits - or that she's big enough for the bouncer!!

Just get ready - because you will have something gross in your hair for the next…well, maybe forever. This weekend I found something sticky (and smelly) in my hair, YUCK!!! And, I think I know the (cute) culprit. :)

  3. I am also dying over her cuteness, especially the Sunday outfit!

  4. I would love to get rid of DirecTV but Tim needs some strange channel for motorcycle racing so we have to keep a premium package. Ridiculous! I hope Matt rigged up your antenna in time to watch a great football game on Saturday night!

Love Millie's outfit and nursery! I think I just got a whiff of spit up. Some memories never die.

  5. Good grief, those gummy grins get me every time! She's just too cute!! And seriously, how is Millie big enough for a bouncer already?! I'm so impressed with that neck strength, despite her disdain for tummy time! Also, haven't yet braved the above nail trend yet; just can't get on board but probably should soon given my latest business venture. (Oh, last thing...her nursery looks great -- I loved the tour, thanks for sharing!!)

  6. We ditch DirecTV every February when football season ends, and it's also a major bummer at first... but then I realize how much I get done with no TV... which quickly morphs into Netflix marathoning and watching worthless movies and before I know it, the TV is on all.day.long.

But seriously, they got rid of AMC? That's so weird, because we still get it and I wouldn't expect there to be differences in coverage with a nationwide company. At least you can find solace in the fact that the last 3 episodes have been BOR-ING.

    1. I guess I didn't word that well. They just moved AMC out of our package/tier/whatever. So we could pay MORE to get the channels that we used to get, but...no. I can just buy the episodes for $2 on Amazon, and even if I did that for every single episode, that $8/month would be a whole lot less than what we were paying DirecTV per month!!!!

  8. In two to five years you'll be painting her nails and that will be oh so fun!! I have been listening to Christmas music already also and I LOVE it!! Oh and I did read the blog on her cute room but didn't get a chance to comment. You did such a great job on everything!! I like all of the color choices and that it's not pink!

  9. You have just inspired me. I now have Pentatonix Holiday music playing at my desk. Thank you. Also, every new momma looks better adorned in spit up :) XO On my way to the tour of her nursery!

  10. That picture of the two of you may be blurry, but it is absolutely perfect. I bought the new Pentatonix Christmas album yesterday and am really enjoying. Not sure it's as good overall as last year's, but their version of "Mary Did You Know" gives "Little Drummer Boy" a run for it's money.

  11. She is such a cutie! The nursery is gorgeous! You did such a amazing job with it! Emma has that bouncer also. Such a eye sore but she lovvves it so it makes it all worth it. :)

  12. Will I be the worst mom ever if I don't bring ginormous baby contraptions and toys into the house? Our house is small and we don't have much storage and well, truth be told, baby toys are ugly and I just can't get behind bouncers and shakers and in-the-door hanger things. I mean where are you supposed to put all the junk?

  13. Hey, I thought we were the only ones who used an antenna to get free TV! Sometimes I'm a little embarrassed by our cheap ways. Although we did go a little wild and spring for HuluPlus recently. It's so luxurious to be able to watch my shows whenever I want.

  14. Weird, Eric and I were JUST discussing getting rid of TV (since we already subscribe to Netflix and Hulu Plus anyway). Running down the list of shows we watch, the only things we'd be missing out on is sports for him and Showtime shows for me. Not bad! Seriously good way to save money. I didn't have television growing up (my mom ditched it when I was 7, and we didn't get it back until 2001), and it was fine. All we watched were classic movies - all Rogers and Hammerstein. The King & I, Oklahoma, South Pacific, all of 'em!

  15. We plan on getting rid of our tv service once we have children too. For right now it's good and it's something we can afford but it's something to easily get rid of when the time calls for it. We plan on making do with Netflix and maybe Hulu Plus! I'm glad y'all are doing this! And that picture of you and Millie is just too adorable for words!

  16. That spit up is my favourite of all the accessories you've ever worn! :) Also, I only miss not having TV when sports are on and I can't livestream them from somewhere. I'm looking at you 2013 Grey Cup...

  17. Her outfit is so cute!! (I feel like I always start my comments with this same statement) Oh, and my present self hasn't mastered how to not paint my cuticles while giving a home manicure so you are not alone!

  18. I so should get rid of DirecTV because I seriously only watch three shows regularly. But I'm so afraid to make that commitment. I did call them today, though, and got them to bring my bill down (by $10, but still) and they upgraded my DVR for free. So I can't hate on them too much.

  19. Love a good, cuddly weekend :-) We had a similar weekend, right along with time in the jumper for Little Buddy. Why does baby gear have to be so giant?!

  20. FYI: I was at Walgreens last night and saw they had a coupon floating around for $2 off any SheaMoisture product! (and then the sweet lady who rang me up gave me another coupon for $1 off another SM product! Yessss!) Not sure if you have a walgreens close by or if they're even running the same coupons, but I thought you might want to check it out!

I love comments almost as much as I love Mexican food. Seriously.
