another weekend of reading, sunning, and flowers.

Seriously. Monday again?

I brought myself a bouquet of flowers to work today. I'm hoping this will somehow bring me zen and peace all week long...??? And/or trick me into thinking I'm actually at home in my garden and not stuck in an office...???
Zinnias and lavender make a very fast and pretty bouquet!
It was a lovely weekend. There were lots of soccer games to be watched by the folks that care about such things, which meant I had plenty of time left to my own devices. Any guesses as to how I spend my free time in the summer?

Not shocking.

So I'm almost done with Book 3, and I am looooovvvviiiinnnnggggg the series. I never really doubted that I'd like them, but it's still nice to find myself enjoying every minute of reading instead of grudgingly getting through it just to please my friends. :) Plus, pool time? Books + pool = Erika's personal nirvana.

Based on Saturday morning (okay, early afternoon) attendance, it appears that everyone at the gym has given up on their fitness goals for the summer. I say that as thought I'm any different. The fact is, if and when I drag myself to the gym on a Saturday, I typically 'reward' myself for my awesome life choice by totally phoning it in (as Jillian would call it). I time it so that I get there right on the hour (any hour) so that a show will be starting on HGTV and then I just zone out on the elliptical until the show ends. No circuits. No weights. Mindless cardio and someone else's home renovation is what a Saturday workout is all about. And I would feel guilty except for it's gotta be better than no workout, right? Right. So.

Since there was not a single soul besides me in the ladies' fitness area, I finally had my long-awaited chance to take loads of (blurry) pictures and selfies. Since guys aren't allowed in the ladies' area, Matt has never seen it! He's had to imagine it based on my verbal description alone!! (There are lots of...umm...weight things...and like...ellipticals...and a line of these other thingies??) So now we've remedied that situation. Whew.

Due to the extremely unbearable heat and humidity all weekend, we only got in a few good hours in the yard. It was long enough, however, to plant a new raspberry plant. We've been loving our raspberries so much (we planted one in April), it seemed like the smart thing to do. Hopefully our raspberry yield will catch up with our blueberries and blackberries and then we will be the most antioxidantated (real word, promise) people on earth.

And now it's back to work. And tearing through HP! Have a great Monday!

  1. Ha! Point for Team HP! Just wait, three is good, like crazy good, but the next four... you'll be lucky if you sleep at all this week!

Also, while you plant and raise various berries, I've almost killed: an indoor plant (it's MOLDING... ewwwww) a hydrangea, AND a cilantro plant. UGHHHHHHHH!

  3. I have an unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter. I read all of the books, and then I bought all of the audio books so that I can keep "reading" while I paint or clean.

  6. Get your gym selfie on! Hooray for loving HP! The audiobooks are awesome, too. They guy reading them does the voices (mostly) from the movies which keeps it interesting.

  8. Those flowers are beautiful, did they seriously come from your yard?! So jealous!! I haven't been to the gym all summer, mostly because it is too darn pretty to be inside!

  11. I am still amazed at how FAST you read!! Sounds like a great weekend to me! I just joined a gym (I know. . . shocker) and it has a ladies workout area and I LOVE it. I feel like I can look like an idiot trying to work whatever machine and no one is judging me, or at least not as harshly as they would if I was in the main area. :)

  14. I'll just call you FTD, but I don't want to pay. You ship me pretty fresh flowers for free, ok?!

  15. Those flowers are beautiful!!! I have a couple of plants that I am waiting to produce the flower they are supposed to produce. The little deal that says what kind of plant they are got thrown away so I don't even know what it's called. Obviously I don't have a green thumb. haha

  16. I'm glad that you are loving HP! :] I think that watching HGTV && only doing cardio is perfectly acceptable for a saturday workout, it's better than a lot of people (including me!) can say.

  17. Sadly, I don't have a full-time job and still can't spend as much time as I like in my garden. Boo. However, I love your bouquet.

Where are you at with Harry Potter now? I found Book 5 dragged a little bit, but after that it got really good again. And now I want to go find my Harry Potter books and re-read them.

My "workout" yesterday consisted of bouncing a two-month-old baby for an hour at our board meeting last night. I joked that, "I knew there was a reason I wore my workout capris tonight." I don't know if it's more pathetic that I wore workout capris to a board meeting or that I consider bouncing a baby a "workout." However her mom e-mailed me later and said it was the longest the baby had been awake and not crying in her life thus far so I call it a major win!!!

And I have twenty-one plants in my raspberry patch and am looking to some awesome raspberries next summer. My mom reminded me that raspberries only bear fruit on second year wood so I can't expect any this summer. Boo.

And now ends this novel of a comment. Happy (next) Monday!

I love comments almost as much as I love Mexican food. Seriously.
