remember to breathe

In T-minus two hours, I will be sitting in my New Patient appointment (THE APPOINTMENT) at a specialists' practice in Atlanta. I'm going to go ahead and assume there will be loads of exciting things awaiting me, including but not limited to: ultrasounds, paper gowns, stirrups, and deep, probing questions about things I'd rather not discuss with strangers (or anyone). Yippee.

I'm wearing the navy-and-white spotted dress (pictured in the far-right picture on my blog header) because lots of good things have happened when I've worn that dress. And it's Friday the 13th. I need any help I can get. I'm not superstitious...I'm just a little bit stitious. That's a movie quote, but I can't remember from what. Leaning towards 10 Things I Hate About You, but not positive...anyone know?

Here's what I would consider "really good things" that could happen today at the appointment.

1) We find the place and are not late.
2) They schedule the surgery. I'm not sure if this is insanely optimistic or what, but I'd like to think we could have one appointment and then the next step be surgery. No idea if that's realistic or not.
3) If #2 happens, then my next hope is that the surgery is in the NEAR FUTURE, such as just when we get back from vacation. I'm pretty sure that is WAY optimistic, but a girl can dream.
4) They do not suggest hormone therapy, birth control pills, etc. as an alternate (initial) way of controlling the endo. Surgery or bust!
5) They do not pressure me to pursue IVF (suggestions/recommendations are fine) and respect my opinion as an educated adult.
6) We find somewhere great to eat lunch.

Since we have pretty solid control over TWO of the above things, it seems like there is at least a 33% chance of the day going Really Well.

I was going to say "I'm not feeling nervous, really"...but then I noticed that my leg is shaking at about 1000 mph, leading me to believe I might actually be nervous.

The title of this post is the title of a Dashboard Confessional song that has absolutely nothing to do with doctors and surgeries, but is still solid advice nonetheless. I was obsessed with Dashboard in high school/college and have no shame in admitting that. In fact, I plan on a pretty sweet Dashboard playlist for our trip to ATL this morning. Dashboard songs are angsty and a teeny bit hopeful...just like me.

Time to go. If you have tons of supportive, inspirational, and/or hilarious thoughts to uplift me with, you know what to do. :)

  1. Yay for the appointment finally being here! Praying for you this morning that all six of your "really good things" happen:) And, yes, Dashboard Confessional = totally angsty with that hope peaking through:)

  2. Just want to let you know I'm praying for you today, Erika. The navy-and-white spotted dress definitely looks like a lucky one!

  3. Keeping you in my well as the doctor so he/she can help you to the best of his/her knowledge.

I think that 'little stitious' is a quote from The Office.

Beautiful dress and yes, just remember to breathe!

I really love what you said on number 5 - "that they respect you as an educated adult". I hate it when doctors treat me like a child and they think I don't know my own body.

Take luck! (ever heard of Brian Regan? He is an awesome comedian and that is something he says).

  4. I hope everything goes well! Surely all six of your good things will happen!

  5. Thinking of you today and a "hands down" best day that you can ever remember, always remember.. in the near future! (pretty sure I could talk in DC lyrics and then Marshall would for sure leave me)

  6. Keep us posted! I'm praying for 6 out of 6 :)

  7. Praying for your friend! Please let us know how everything goes, I am very interested (if that's okay). We are in a similar boat...though I don't blog about it. We should email! :) Prayers going up!

  8. I am also praying for 6 out of 6.

And the quote is from The Office, Michael Scott, Season 4. (Thank you Google!)

And the navy and white dress is sure to bring you luck because it is awesome!

  9. Praying for you girl! My friend Nikki has endo and is pregnat with her first baby right now. There is SO much hope!!!

  10. I think you should rename your blog "Angsty and a teeny bit hopeful" - thoughts? Everything is going to go great today, and you are going to top it off with a tasty lunch, followed by winning the lottery. Gotta think positively, right?

  11. Priz-aying. and I saw on instagram that your lunch looked pretty here's hoping that everything else got checked off the list.

  12. Oh man, I can time a good bacon pic huh? LOL

It's 5:35, so I'm late for praying that it went well, but HOPING it went well. ((HUGS))

  13. Prayers for you today friend! Hope you had a great day here in the city :)

I love comments almost as much as I love Mexican food. Seriously.
