summer sun, something's begun

I have an awesome prize for the first person who tells me what song the title of this post is from. GO!

Yesterday Diana and I were discussing the abundance of 'summer bucket lists' floating around Pinterest these days.

(Exhibit A)

 (Exhibit B)

They're fun and all, but we have some serious problems with most of them. First of all, they have like twelve thousand items. Clearly they are meant for people who have twelve thousand free days of summer...which is incidentally not us, since we have the exact same amount of free hours during the summer as we do the rest of the year. So I don't need that many new things to do. You're killing me, Bucket List. Secondly, most of them are for people with kids. Or people who ARE kids. Because let's talk about how creepy it would be if I went and showed up at a splash pad by myself. WOOOO!!!! Water shooting up out of the ground!!! I'm losing my miiiiind!!!!!!

Not. Happening.

Also, I do not want to make a robot (???? Nor would I want to make one if I were a kid or if I had a kid or EVER, really. Robots are for scientists. Not people like me.) or catch a frog or throw water balloons (seriously, who's gonna clean up all those tiny pieces of plastic balloon bits when we're done? Plus water balloon fights always result in tons of ant bites. Not sure how that happens, but it's a guarantee) or basically do anything except drink rum-based beverages while I work on my tan by the pool. That's what summer is for

But then, it's good to make goals, to make a point of doing fun things that aren't just sitting by a pool...you know, like training for a triathlon! Or painting the living room! Obviously I'm all about trying new things. Just not the things I've seen on most of these 'bucket lists.'

Which is why Diana and I did the only logical thing. We made our own bucket list. Our bucket list for people like us. People who are semi-old, who do not have kids (or even a spouse, necessarily) to base our activities around, who spend most of their summer hours WORKING, and who do not have unlimited money. The best Summer Bucket List Ever.

And then we made it pretty.

Amazing, right? It took us almost 20 whole minutes to think of the perfect balance of 'okay, what are things we'd probably do anyway? we need easy things to check off...' items plus 'what are things that would be FUN but not TOO hard to work in?' plus 'must think of something that isn't related to food' goals. I know. We are super dedicated. And then Diana whipped up the little graphic after work and...voila! The perfect List. You are welcome. Feel free to join us in our ambitious endeavors, and look!!!- we even made three blank boxes so you can make your OWN goals! We are nothing if not givers. Truly.

Also, we definitely did not start off by aiming for 20 new beers. Definitely not. That would make us look totally un-classy when we are clearly super classy (please see: gray chevron background, bright turquoise and green color scheme). But I am saying that if anyone sees any Adult Beverage Bucket Lists floating around, I know someone who might be interested. A friend of a friend. Yep.

It's summer, yall. Even for us 'working girls' (Diana says that phrase has bad connotations? I don't get it...), it's an exciting prospect. Summer!! Yay!! Summer with 23 new goals?? SUPER YAY! Let's see who can finish them all first. GO!

  2. I haven't read the entire post yet, but needed to comment and say "SUMMER NIGHTS" FROM GREASE! So I could be first!

  3. Ok, now I've finished the post. I think this is a great idea! (Are we going to ignore the part about you not technically being in the 20-something club anymore? :)

    Love this idea, btw!

  5. I'm not 20-something, child-less or a 9-5er and I love your list maybe because they are all budget friendly and that's where it's at!

  6. Could the rooftop restaurant you have in mind be the Georgia Theater place?!?!? I love this list! And I totally agree... what's with people acting like life dramatically changes for summer? I don't suddenly get PTO hours X2!

  7. Yeah!

I think I have heard the "Working girl"title in connotation before to, um...escort services, so ever since then because I'm not 100% I always shy away from using it.

  8. I love your bucket list and I respectfully ask to be able to use it even though I have kids and I am in my...urp...40s. Blah :(

Also, the only changes summer brings to me (us) is that all the kids' programs end (because then they are all aimed at school aged kids) and we are left to entertain ourselves in our non air conditioned house.

And I'll send you some Canadian drinks to mix up. I'm sure there are some out there!

  9. I am DYING over Exhibit B... I mean, what is a gio cache anyway? And who would really WANT to paint rocks?! And what's so special about eating corn on the cob?! Lame-sauce exhibit B. Lame Sauce.

  10. first, I totally agree with Hollie about exhibit b! Second, I'm totally doing this, you had me at eat froyo for lunch!

  11. Great list, totally doable! I work full time through the summer, so those precious little SAHM lists are a little much for me as well...

  12. For some reason, all of my friends seem to be teachers and taunt me all summer long by posting pictures of their poolside antics while I'm stuck in my cubicle. Why the hell did I not become a teacher?! Anyway, the first two lists are either for stay-at-home moms or all those teacher bitches. For the rest of the world, I think your list sounds doable. I'm in. (P.S. 20 beers sounds delightful and not the least bit un-classy).

  13. I'd like to submit an appropriate item for that list: get a snow cone... pretty sure I could make an entire "to do" list like this involving food/beverages to consume.

  14. great list! you better post pictures every time you do one!!!

  15. Love this! We did one similar last Summer with crazy escapades like get a picture with grizzlies in Alaska and fly somewhere we've never been. It was so rewarding to cross those off our list. This Summer's list is admittedly lamer... rent a Uhaul and move across the country. Definitely adding some of your Summer Fun Bucket List ideas to the mix! Perhaps trying 7 new beers whilst kayaking. Would that be double points?!

  16. Maybe I should make a summer list that is based around food/drinks. I mean, for reals, have you been to a fair in the summer? It is pretty much the only time I will eat a corn dog. And it totally doesn't count. (the calories) Love this list. Love summer. Love sunshine.

  17. This is pretty much the best bucket list I have ever seen! And with actually attainable things! I think I could do ALL of these, except maybe a baseball game... well, i could, just would have to find a buddy b/c my hubby is not into sports at ALL! (I know...weird... I'm not either though, so it's all good! I still kind of enjoy games, once in awhile though!)

  18. This is a GREAT list! And, since Little K will be in FL for the summer, I'm totally stealing it. :-) Summer FTW!

  19. How fun! I want to do all of these things too!

I love comments almost as much as I love Mexican food. Seriously.
