I'll probably be receiving the Lifetime Achievement in Inventions award any day now

Please heed this warning: your life is about to be changed. You are going to be so inspired, so awestruck...it's entirely possible that you won't be able to think about anything else for the rest of the day. So if you can't deal with that kind of situation today, perhaps save this for later tonight. But if you're in the mood to be wowed, keep reading.

Yesterday I faced a serious conundrum. It happened as we were returning home from church and errands in the early afternoon. Due to circumstances beyond my control (that is to say, Pitch Perfect and Revenge with friends until the wee hours of the morning the night before) I was super duper tired. Dragging. Grumpy. Majorly in need of a Sunday afternoon nap.

BUT.

It was gorrrrrrgeous outside. We're talking 73 degrees. Sunny. A slight breeze. Unquestionably hands-down perfect weather. The kind of weather that has everyone at church and the grocery store abuzz with excitement and plans to get out in it and enjoy it. To go on a walk. To trim back the hedges. To hit golf balls. To swing on swings and slide down slides. To do something- anything- outside, just to soak in the loveliness. And you know me and you KNOW how much I love being outside. This was 100% the desire of my heart, too.

BUT...I was so tired.

And the obvious conflict here was tearing me up. I WANT TO NAP!!! But I DON'T WANT TO WASTE THIS WEATHER!!! It's going to be cold(er) and rainy most of the week. Yucky March weather. I will hate myself for having wasted a 73-and-sunny day on a NAP. Ugh. What to do, what to do.

You may not know this, but back in 2005 I was awarded two prestigious (haha) pieces of paper from the University of Georgia. One of them is a Bachelor of Arts. One of them is a Bachelor of Science. Therefore I am, legally speaking, both a scientist and an artist. I know. I don't mean to brag, and it usually isn't relevant, but it's the only explanation that I have for the stroke of genius that came upon me yesterday afternoon. Only a bona fide Scientist Artist could have come up with the perfect solution to the need-nap-but-pretty-weather crisis.

Are you ready for it?? You better sit down.

Orrr...lie down, as the case may be.

The perfect solution to my problem turned out to be taking my air mattress to the back porch.

Napping in comfort (with proper back support) + sunshiney 75 degree weather + fan for a consistent breeze = PERFECTION

There's nothing like the rest that comes after one solves a major world crisis. Is this what it feels like to be president? No, definitely not. Because no matter what the president does, half of the country still hates him. NO ONE HATED THIS.

I'm sure my neighbors had a few raised eyebrows, but at this point...my redneck ingenuity is kind of the norm. (Exhibit A, Exhibit B) Also, I'm sure they were all just jealous.

I enjoyed my sweet back porch setup all afternoon. When I was adequately rested, we took a walk to the dog park. Upon arriving home, I returned to my open-air bedroom for some reading and relaxation.

Amanda S. sent me this book and it is REALLY good!! Also...the cover is beautiful.
Other fun stuff went on this weekend, too, but I'm pretty sure this took the cake. And now, as I look out at the dreary, rainy, cold weather...I have no regrets. I took that stupid Sunday afternoon conundrum and DOMINATED IT with a no-compromises-compromise of epic proportions. And now I can start my week. Boom.

  1. You are TOO FUNNY. I'm glad you were able to get your nap in and still enjoy all this beautiful weather. (Well, better, "all THAT beautiful weather" as it's back to being cold and dreary, ugh. Make up your mind, Georgia…)

  2. Oh. My. Gosh. I don't even have words that'd express how wonderful this set-up is; way to go bachelor scientist lady.

  3. NICE!!!! I love laying outside on a warm sunshiny day. My similar invention is two patio furniture chairs pushed together. Not nearly as comfy as yours. Nice wok.

  8. I don't even feel adequate enough to comment on your blog anymore. You, my dear, are a GENIUS! There's no question who I'm voting for in 2016--with this kind of brilliance, you could rule the world! Or at least solve really important problems here in the States!

  12. Brilliant! Part of me wishes I could go back in time and create my own outdoor sleeping event for yesterday.

  13. OH MY GOSH! This is so brilliant!!! Think of all the possibilities: you're close enough to the house to utilize wi-fi, you could binge on netflix from your open air bedroom! Amazing! So jealous!

  16. I got stuck at the fact that you were in shorts and a tank top. WHAT?!?!?!?! There was a 80F difference in our weather yesterday. How about next time you get the cold weather and we take the warmth. Deal???

  17. Feels like -10 here...I'm quite green with envy! Georgia sounds like a great place to live...I could use some good vitamin D!

  18. I'm having trouble looking at these pics without wanting to throw a jacket and some pants at you because it is so freaking cold in Texas today. I was wearing an outfit similar to yours to go walking yesterday morning, and a couple of hours later, it was in the 30's! Madness.

  19. I'm SOOO jealous! Yesterday my big achievement was home across sleet covered roads! What usually takes me about 50 min took me almost 90. And today we have about 6 inches of snow! How in the world was I just sitting outside sipping coffee on Saturday? Ugh Missouri... Just when you think it's got it's act together it acts stupid and disappointing all over again.

  20. I can't decide if I am more jealous of your genius idea, that you were able to go outside without the wind giving you an ice cream-like headache (which actually happened to me leaving church yesterday), or that you're able to open your windows. Given that it was -5 when we left this morning and is a balmy 9 right now, I'll just make it easy and say all of the above :)

  21. Genius! Pure GENIUS:) Although I might have to stop reading your blog until...oh I don't know...April? May? Because I am green with envy over that weather. Heck I would even take rain! Alas it is too cold here and precipitation would just mean MORE snow:(

  22. Love this idea! It is 2 degrees here.

  23. I like the way you think! If only you could have arranged for someone to come give you a pedicure at the same time (like a mobile dog groomer, but for pedicures)?

  25. Love it! I'm so jealous of your weather. It was 4 here last night. Awesome.

  27. Ugh, it's supposed to go down to "feeling like" -20 here in PA tonight. This weekend was not much better. This picture makes me SO JEALOUS... I feel like you're on a different planet rather than just a few states away. But, it also makes me look forward to spring so, so much. Haters gonna hate. I love the mattress idea.
