a mid-allegiant update...

Here's my jolly re-cap of yesterday (and today, from the looks of it) in one-picture format:

That's right. Allegiant. I downloaded it at approximately 8 a.m. yesterday and have spent every spare minute devouring it. I felt really cool and cutting-edge when I went to download it yesterday because it had only SEVEN reviews at the time. I mean, obviously it was only released that morning, so not a lot of people had had the time to get it, read it, and review it yet, but still. I felt like I was one of those people who discovered the band first or something. The bad news was that even with only 7 reviews, the average star rating was like 2.5!! Now it's up to 217 reviews and it's still holding out with an average review of about 2.5. Not sure what's going on. I started to read some of the reviews but SPOILERS, so I stopped. For comparison's sake, the first two books in the trilogy have eleventy-thousand reviews each and an average star rating of like 4.75 (out of 5), sooooo...apparently something must go terribly awry at the end of this one for people to be hating it so much. That's a bummer. So far I'm still loving it (60% through; 31 chapters completed)...maybe I should stop reading now and just make up an ending so that I don't end up dissatisfied? Yeah, no.

Relatedly, anyone know who is playing Tris and Four in the movies? This is suddenly very important to me. I might have to do some research.

Completely unrelatedly, I discovered this vegetable (fruit? produce product?) at the store on Monday:\

I think it was called 'Buddha's fingers' or something and it is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. In a classic display of maturity, I grabbed it and sneaked up behind Matt and tickled his side with it. It was great. I'm sure all of my fellow shoppers agreed. I mean, I don't know what else you're supposed to do with something that looks as freaky as that. Eating it seems entirely out of the question.

We had our home study last night. I think it went fine. I basically just feel sick to my stomach all the time about everything adoption-related at this point, so that's about all I have to say about that. I want our baby home and for everything to be over with and to not be worried all the time. Or at least to worry about NORMAL mom-things, like crying and feeding and whatever. We have an appointment with a pediatrician tomorrow. I feel like I should have lots of well-thought-out questions to pepper him with, but basically I don't. Ugh.

On that note, I must return to my book. And my pointless fretting. Ugh.

  1. I'm new to your blog, from Kelly's Korner, and have loved your posts! I'm an avid reader, though a bit behind the times (I'm currently on the 4th book of Harry Potter). I've never heard of the book you are talking about, so I looked up the series on Amazon. I'm thinking I might start reading them! My sister just asked me what I want for my birthday - I think I'll tell her to get the series for me!
I'm also praying for you guys and sweet Ellison. I can't wait to hear updates. My husband and I just started trying to get pregnant, and though it's fun, it's a huge test of my patience! LoL.

    1. Thanks Michele!! Don't worry, I'm normally super behind the reading times, too. STILL haven't read HP! (Cue all the angry people) You should definitely check out these books for your birthday!!

  2. So did you take home the fingers and try them? I'm curious about the taste!

  3. I haven't heard of this series either! I'm trying to get into Game of Thrones but I fall asleep too quickly at night - I should probably try to bust it out during my lunch breaks? Once you finished Allegiant (probably by the end of today) you should start HP!! :)

  4. I wouldn't have even picked up the "produce product" - that is terrifying!

As for the adoption worries... still praying! Keep your chin up, friend.

  7. Okay...that is perhaps the weirdest looking thing I've ever seen at the grocery store! I bought the book but was in bed didn't have the chance to crack it open yet. I'm trying to finish a book called "Partials" before I start. I currently have four (maybe five) books on the go right now. I'm happy to hear the home study went well.

  8. I didn't get to download mine until midnight so I'm only on chapter 2 :( I like that we get chapters from Tobias' point of view though. Although it took me a minute to figure that out! I looked up the casting when I read Divergent and I approve!

  9. For the first time in my life I'm leaving a comment without reading the post!! I haven't even gotten Allegiant yet and I don't even read book jackets before reading a book because I feel like they give away too much...and I'm afraid if I read this post I'll learn things I shouldn't learn. What do you think? Is this post safe for someone like me who's been waiting like 9 months for this book to come out??! I just put in on hold at the library and I'm #462 of 462 and they don't even have any copies in yet. Miserable.

  10. Buddha's fingers have been an ingredient on Chopped, and mostly I've just seen the chefs zest it. Apparently it has some sort of citrus-y attribute? I think using it as a tickling device is much more fun, though.

    1. Oh! I would have guessed it was like a carrot where you just break off a bit and then dip it in ranch.

  11. So glad the home study went well! You're knocking 'em out!

  12. I have been waiting and waiting for this post because your "adoption" label is now one higher than your "endometriosis" label! Whoo hoo!!! And that has nothing to do with this post.

And that Buddha's Fingers thing is freaky... Blah :(

Now I'm off to check where I am on the holds list for...um... Divergent. Yeah, I'm behind the times. #4 -- I should have it in a couple of weeks so I'll get back to you then :)

  13. We are book twins! I did as you hinted a few days ago, and took a personal day yesterday for the SOLE purpose of reading Allegiant. I'm only about 50% through because . . . naps, but it's fabulous so far! What do those reviewers know?

  15. Tris = girl from Secret Life of the American Teenager and The Descendants (Shailene Woodley - sp?).
Four = Kemal Pamuk from Downton Abbey (Theo James) = HOT

I downloaded it yesterday too but haven't started yet - been working too much, boo!

  17. Hi! I found your blog through the Kelly's Korner link-up as well. We are hoping to adopt domestically and are waiting to be matched. I love what you said about how you can't wait to worry about "normal" stuff, you could have taken the words right out of my mouth. I hope everything goes smoothly for you and you are able to breathe a sigh of relief soon!

  19. I wasn't sure how I felt about Shailene Woodley at first but it's growing on me! And I agree with the above - I'm liking the guy that will be Four. Also, I'm super excited about Kate Winslet! I. Can't. Wait. You are beating the pants off me but I'm trucking along!

  21. That is a fruit! You made me google it! Or, er, wiki it??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddha%27s_hand Says it's like citrus??? It can be sprinkled over salads?!?! How bizarre!

I have not heard of that book series! And i am a book worm!

I am praying for you about the adoption. Praying praying praying. So sorry it is taking forever. I am praying for peace for you. xoxo

  23. Oh man! "That's creepy lookin' that's what that is ok?!" (Can you name that movie?) I'm not sure how you braved picking up the weird produce thing...very, very strange.

Continuing to pray for you in your adoption journey! Hoping time will fly and soon all we'll be hearing from you is your "normal" life with a baby!!

  24. I'm not one to give a book a bad review because it didn't end the perfect way I imagined it. Hunger Games disappointed me, but the books were still GOOD. Same thing with this one, I won't share tons of details, but was I sad? Of course! Did that make the series suck, absolutely not. I'm on Goodreads.com and I get really upset with members giving books 5 stars before the book is ever released just because they are SO excited! It makes it weird... That's neat that Kindle/Amazon doesn't allow reviews till after publication. SO EXCITED FOR THE MOVIE IN MARCH!!!

  25. I think ticking Matt's side with that weird fruit was the only acceptable course of action. Well done. So...are there any more of these books? If they are all out then it's probably time for me to read them. I normally don't start a book series unless all are readily accessible so I can become a hermit and read them all start to end in a week or so time period (Twilight , Harry Potter, Hunger Games).

I love comments almost as much as I love Mexican food. Seriously.
