Currently, I am...
Listening...to the Gabe Dixon Band station on Pandora. It's pretty solid.
Eating...nothing at the moment, but we made the Lentil Salad recipe from Skinnytaste to eat for our lunches this week (doubled the recipe, FYI, to make enough for 2 hungry people for four days) and it was awesome. It was one of those things that got better as the week went on, PLUS it was dirt cheap and healthy (also, if you happen to care, gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan). It'll be in the regular lunch rotation for sure now!
Drinking...nothing. But yesterday during lunch, we went to the library to pick up a book that I'd put a hold on (SIDE NOTE TANGENT: sometimes, like yesterday, the amazingness of libraries just overwhelms me. I go in. I get exactly what I want. And then I leave. AND IT IS FREE. I mean, blah blah blah taxes, I know it's not really free, but it FEELS free and it is SO AWESOME, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!! I wanted to high five a librarian, but no one looked game for that, so I'm celebrating here with you instead). After the library, I decided I needed a chocolate milkshake from the Varsity to cool my parched throat. I'm training the temp who will take over my job while I'm on leave, which means I talk nonstop for 8 hours a day. It's hard on my poor throat. So I got a milkshake for medicinal purposes. I feel like medicinal milkshakes have no calories, right? Right.
Wearing...a pair of relatively fashionable and non-holey jeans I'd forgotten that I owned. Ha. So maybe the new dress code won't be as challenging as I'd imagined.
Feeling...happy that it's Friday, it's a bring-Lola-to-work day, and I get to see my sister and family in just a few hours!!
Straight chilling on the floor of my office. |
Wanting...this amazing bib that my sister just sent me a picture of:
I don't normally care for 'message' tees/bibs/onesies/bags/hats/anything, but I do care for this one. Annnnd then Sarah quickly followed up the original text by informing she'd just ordered it because her niece absolutely needs this, so...looks like we can put this one in the 'wish granted' category! Yay! Ha.
Needing...like last month, I'll stick with 'patience and wisdom.' At least this month you know what I'm talking about, though! ;)
Thinking...don't judge me, but I'm still kind of thinking about how awesome libraries are. I wonder who invented them? If it was a woman and her name isn't like...Helga or something...I would like to name our child after her. LIBRARIES ARE FREAKING AWESOME.
Enjoying...training the temp this week. Sure, all of the talking hurts my throat and gives me a headache, but it makes me feel a LOT better knowing that my job will be done well in my absence. And it makes me happy to think about how I'm training someone because soon I will have a baby and have way more important things to do than sit in my office all day. :)
Geez. Between my excitement about the baby and my renewed awareness about the awesomeness of libraries, I'm just about to bounce off the walls today. Good luck having as great of a day as I am!!!
Well, you made me curious, so I had to look it up. And as I suspected, the first library was created/founded/whatever by a man. Lots of debate as to who started the first "official" library, but either way, they all have very standard man names...none that would even remotely work for a girl, despite the popularity of giving girls boys' names. I just don't know that she'd be able to pull off James, Benjamin, George, etc.
ReplyDeleteBut can we please address the awesomeness of that bib?!?! I feel that thing was created just for you! (Or, well, your baby...because I'm pretty sure you're past the bib-wearing stage.) But really, it's awesome, and your sister is even more awesome for ordering it for you!
Love these currently lists -- glad to see life is currently treating you pretty dang well. Hope y'all have a great weekend!
ha, love your enthusiasm for libraries! I'm a public librarian and would take a virtual high five anytime. :) I know you read a lot so if you haven't already you should check out the e-book offerings your library has, even more amazing in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteWOOO!!! I wish I could be your co-worker!! :) Our library does have a lot of e-books, but the last time I tried to use them the system of finding/downloading/returning was SO complicated that it discouraged me...but it was probably over a year ago, so maybe things have improved!! I will try again!
DeleteIf you're looking for a career change heading to grad school to get your MLIS is how mere mortals become librarians. :) I seriously wish I lived in GA not OH so I could teach you! My suggestion is to bring your tablet/kindle into your library and ask if someone can help you get started with e-books. Librarians want to help and once you know how, it's not hard!
DeleteI share your enthusiasm! Free books are awesome, especially since I'm not one to read a book twice. However, I'm 45th on the waiting list for the new Emily Giffin book so it looks like the secret's out. I wish we could have kept this library thing to ourselves.
ReplyDeleteBabies, bids and skinnytaste are awesome too!
Currently I'm drinking the most delicious cup of coffee. It's Gloria Jean's Butter Nut Fudge from my Keurig...yum!
ReplyDeleteYay for training your temp. Nothing like making things seem more real!!!
I am all about try new k-cups and this one sounds great!! Did you get it off their website or a local store?
DeleteA lady at my work gave me that exact recipe a couple days ago! Now that I know for sure it's good I may just have to make it this weekend. :) I love the freeness (yes I know that's not really a word but it sounds cool) of the library too!! Add in the fact that it is directly across the street from my office and it's a winner! It seems like you have the best job and ya'll get to do so many awesome things, like bring your dog to work!
ReplyDeleteI just had that same library moment the other day! I walked in, took every book on the topic I needed, a lovely lady took my card to check out the books, then I was on my way! I always feel great after leaving the library. I think it's the smell of all the books. Yumm :)
ReplyDeleteI just don't think anyone could be mad when they're leaving a library. So satisfying! So free!
DeleteTake your dog to work day! That's awesome!! I wish we had that here! And yes, medicinal milkshakes = zero calories. You are absolutely correct! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm still jealous you get to bring Lola to work! I would probably get nothing done if I brought one of my dogs :)
ReplyDeleteI was on the library train for awhile and now I need to get back on it! You're right - with very few things free these days, it's an awesome place!!!!
Have the best weekend!!
I am so excited for you to be training the temp! I mean what a great way to KNOW that your job will be done right and done well while you're out being a momma! SO amazing! Also, I am SUPER wanting that lentil salad you mentioned, are you willing to share the recipe or link???
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday, friend!!
Of course!! You can click the blue words that say Lentil Salad Recipe (above), or go here if it's easier to copy/paste! http://www.skinnytaste.com/2014/07/lentil-salad.html
DeleteHA, funny, I didn't even realize that it was a hyperlink! Thanks Doll :)
DeleteNow you have ME thinking about how cool libraries are!! ;)
ReplyDeleteTHE BIB! oh my - ha! You definitely need that :) Have fun with your family this weekend! xoxo
ReplyDeleteLots of excitement on your plate but CLEARLY the existence of libraries tops that list!
ReplyDeleteLibrary e-books have changed my nerdy life! And yes, libraries in general are awesome. The Chicago Pub Library site isn't super user-friendly either but it's getting much better. Stick with it, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous that Lola is at work with you. I would pay 30 zillion dollars to bring my dog to work (but then i should probably just stay at home and not make money).
I share in your library love this week...I actually love the library so much that I am missing my job at one. 6 years as a public library clerk...why did I ever leave?!
ReplyDeleteI only read a few comments so someone might have already suggested it, but since libraries were founded by men maybe you could name your daughter after a fav library that's named for a woman? Like my hometown library is Helen Hall. Anyway, could be interesting! Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteChocolate milkshakes + libraries + baby excitement = a great day indeed!
ReplyDeleteAndrew Carnegie was a Scottish-American businessman/philanthropist who funded Carnegie libraries all over the United States. Many of them are really beautiful and there are 24 in the state of Georgia. I'm thinking a good ole' double southern name like "Mary Carnegie" or "Ann Carnegie!" :))
ReplyDeleteI really love libraries!!! They are some of my favourite places in the whole world. Love them!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't know about the first in the world, but it was Ben Franklin who started the first American lending library. That guy did everything! I also love the library and have never really undestood why people pay so much for books they will probably only read once, when you could pay nothing! Also love that I can get movies there.., also for FREE!
ReplyDeletei still mourn the burnings of the library of alexandria... so there's that famous library, you know, if you wanted to go that route.
