will you accept this rose?

Happy Valentine's, yall! We're not big 'Valentine's' people (because let's face it, Matt buys me presents and does thoughtful things pretty much year round), but when I came home from hanging out with some ladies last night, Matt surprised me with roses, gifts, and a card.

Obviously the boy pays attention when The Bachelor is on, amiright??! I cracked up at this one. While I was reading the card (that started like this) and then finished and turned around to hug him, he was standing in the doorway holding a single rose and actually SAID "Erika, will you accept this rose?" HAHAHA. It was pretty classic. Of course I accepted, gave him a hug and a kiss, and then exclaimed some nonsense about this rose meaning everything and how excited I am about this journey we are on. It was pretty classic. Too bad there were no camera crews to capture it.

It's our EIGHTH Valentine's Day, technically. We started dating about 3 days before V-Day in 2006, so we didn't really count that first one (that woulda been awkward...), but I did find this picture of myself at work on that day.

And for the record, I still wear that sweater. It's timeless. Or I'm stuck in a rut. One of those.

For a better picture of what life was really like back in our early days of dating-hood, please enjoy this real-life moment someone captured shortly after we became official.
If that doesn't look like a couple bound to stand the test of time, I don't know what does. I'm pretty sure that's a face Matt got really used to seeing. Ha.

Happy Valentine's Day, friends! (And in case you were wondering, Major Holidays such as this definitely call for a suspension of the Bird Food Diet. As if there were any doubt.)

  1. OMG, I'm obsessed with Matt's card to you! What a great guy! So glad you accepted the rose and that you're sharing this journey together.

Also, did you have blonde-ish hair when you first starting dating?!

And finally, Happy LOVE Day, friend!

  2. Really wishing you had caught your Bachelor moment on video! (I almost said "on tape," but is that obsolete now that tapes are pretty much a thing of the past?!)

  6. Matt has such a great sense of humor. That's why y'all make such a beautiful couple. I wish I lived closer so that I can relish in all your funny-couple-ness in person. Happy Valentine's Day!

  7. Okay, you guys win the "Most fun couple" award (hands down!). I love reading about all of the funny things you do for eachother - I crack up every time! We aren't big into V-day, either, as it is my big sis's b-day. In college we always went to Chipotle on Valentine's Day so that is our tradition! He'll be picking up a veggie burrito bowl for me on his way home tonight! SO ROMANTIC :)

  10. Matt is such a sweet-sweet! (Sweet-Sweet is the highest term of endearment in my lexicon). Love the pictures! Y'all should reenact that classic photo... perhaps for your holiday greeting cards?

  11. Just thought you should know that Brian and I are planning to eat Mexican food tonight... which I think you'll agree is the most appropriate/romantic way to spend Valentine's Day.

Also, I of course love your current hair with bangs, but I really like your hair without bangs too!

  12. Ba ha ha ha! :) Only way that could have been better would be Chris Harrison announcing before you saw your husband, "This is the final rose tonight. Matt, when you're ready..."
