throwback, 'first date' edition

As far as I know, this was the first picture ever taken of Matt and I together. It was January of 2006. We had been coworkers for about 5 months, and it was safe to say there was some mutual crushing going on. On this day, we'd been at a work-related conference and decided to spend the lunch break at a local playground with our mutual friend Catherine.

We didn't officially begin dating for another month, but I remember how nervous and excited and happy I was to be spending time with Matt (with the safety net of Catherine, of course!), to ride in his disgustingly nasty Honda, to see how gleefully he played on a kids' playground.

And God bless Catherine for spending the afternoon with two crushing goobers.

I thought Matt was so cute. Ohmygosh. And despite his obvious hunk status (I mean, at any given time, he was dating one girl and had 14 girls not-so-secretly lusting after him from afar), he would go to a playground and goof off on the monkey bars? Swoon.

The great thing is, eight years later- he isn't so different. He dresses a lot better (gee, I wonder who we can thank for that?). He drives a significantly less smelly car. He gets most of his exercise done in a gym and not on a park playground.

He still spends many afternoons hanging around (upside down or otherwise) with me and Catherine.

I still think he's the cutest guy ever, and I still can't believe he picked me.

For no particular reason except that I came across the pictures and they made me smile-- happy Thursday, Mattie. I think going to the playground for our lunch break that day could have been one of the most important trivial decisions we ever made.

And this picture was taken about a month later. This is a face he's probably much more accustomed to seeing from me. ;)

I may be Not Amused, but I couldn't love him any more.

  2. I'm impressed you saw through the jeans. I think Sam has a pair just like those... very flattering. Plus on Sam, they were approximately 4 inches too short. It was such a good look. I'm pretty sure the first gift I ever gave Sam was a pair of Lucky Brand jeans in long. Bless them.

  3. Is this Bishop park? How did I not know they used to have swings? And why on earth did they get rid of them?!

Also, I am amused that Gapud just made an appearance on your blog. It kind of looks like he's your chaperone in that last pic.

  7. Haha I love the pictures!! And stumbling along old ones that make you smile :) I think the first picture of peter and I is when we went to VA Beach with his mom and little sister. He's smirking and I'm smiling nicely...haha things haven't changed much!

  8. Thanks for sharing your pictures--how fun that you have them of your first unofficial date! (I can't believe you were playing outside in January, without coats, gloves, hats, and 14 layers....). Call me a sentimental old fool, but nowadays it is so easy to take a picture anywhere--I think it's nice that the first ones you have weren't taken by a phone :)

"I still think he's the cutest guy ever, and I still can't believe he picked me." -- This perfectly sums up how I feel about Josh, too. :)

  13. Love this! Wade and I did a lot of swinging at this park by his house just before we started officially dating - must be the secret to landing a husband?? (Also, could the beginning of our respective relationships have been anymore wholesome?!)

  16. Cute photos and post!

I know proper grammar is important to you so I'm going to give you a little tip: It should be "This was the first picture ever taken of Matt and me . . . " (not Matt and I). You should always use the pronoun 'me' when the pronoun is the object of a preposition e.g. "Catherine spent the day with Matt and me" not "Catherine spent the day with Matt and I." 'Me' together with 'Matt' forms the object of the proposition 'with.' So you should use the pronoun 'me' rather than the pronoun 'I." An easy way to make sure you've chosen the right pronoun is to see whether the sentence reads properly if you remove the additional noun: "Catherine spent the day with I" is of course incorrect and should be "Catherine spent the day with (Matt and) me."

Once you know the rule above, you will cringe (as I do) when you see it written incorrectly! You are an excellent writer and I offer this tip only because I think (hope) you will appreciate it.

Can't wait to hear that new baby is in your arms. . .

    1. Aaaaack you are so right!!! I KNOW I always mess this up, and usually I am extra-paranoid about getting it right (because my impulse is ALWAYS to do it wrong, obviously)...but it definitely slipped on past me this time!!! Thanks for the reminder- you are right, I totally appreciate the (kind, haha) correction!!! :)
