ugh. but also- woo!

Ugh- (UH-g) interjection: The sound that describes a feeling of moderate displeasure or irritation. Often accompanied by a facial expression like this:

Things that could cause someone to experience the feeling of ugh:

Ugh-  When your husband has to work late every single night of the week and still might have to go in on the weekend, too. And he's a banker, so like...banker's hours are what you're used to. AKA you're a pansy and have never experienced a husband working past 5:03 before.

Ugh- When you hear 57 pregnancy announcements in four days. And many of them are from fellow infertiles and that is AWESOME, seriously-- but still, ugh. Still not me. Still gonna be the last childless person on earth. Ugh.

Ugh- When previously quality and enjoyable (or at least tolerable) Facebook friends suddenly get involved with some MLM company and blow up your news feed shilling their wares and services and like just stop already. Ugh is having to decide whether to block them from your newsfeed, because you still want to see their pictures of kids and funny comments about current events and HuffPost recommendations, but you really cannot handle seeing another picture of their product.

Ugh- When you realize your amazing Mexican beach vacation is STILL ANOTHER MONTH AWAY. But you really wish it was like...now.

Ugh- When you somehow manage to brush off the symptoms of patellar tendonitis during stages 1 and 2 and then find yourself in stage 3 and your knee hurts all the time. But since knee doctors can't get you babies, you will refuse to seek and pay for treatment and instead just complain about it until it goes away.

Ugh- When it rains 24/7 for like 2100 days and then it finally stops long enough for you to go outside and peek at your flowers and vegetables but oh my GOSH the mosquitoes are so bad you can't stay out for more than 28 seconds without being eaten alive. And also there are mushrooms (most evil substance on earth ever) growing all over your lawn and flowers. Sick.

Ugh- When you somehow manage to not check Twitter for 2 hours last night and then once you're in bed and take one last glance, discover that you somehow missed the Cultural Event of the Decade-- the premiere of Sharknado on Syfy.

Ugh is annoying, but it's not the end of the world. Luckily it can be balanced out by the feeling of woo!

Woo! (WOO) interjection: A sound that describes a feeling of excitement and approval. Often accompanied by a facial expression like this:

This is kind of a scary woo!, but a woo! all the same.

Things that could cause one to experience the feeling of woo!:

Woo!- When you think about how glad you are that your husband has a job and that his boss needs his help a lot during a difficult transition. And also- overtime pay.

Woo!- When you (a very newbie, novice, clueless user of Adobe design products) design a graphic for an event at work and hear multiple people compliment the graphic and attribute it to the office's graphic designer-- and then you have to interject and inform them that YOU ACTUALLY DID IT and then they are mad impressed and you are ridiculously proud of your silly little graphic.

Woo!- When several infertile friends find themselves with child- some with medical assistance, some via straight-up miracles, and you are reminded that God has not forgotten us. And you're so thankful for the amazing community of women you've found yourself in.

Woo!- When you wake up with beach-wavey hair two days in a row.

Woo!- When the 2100 days of rain give you such an abundance of tomatoes that you can take some to work to share with friends.

Woo!- When you get an email from Starbucks thanking you for being a member of 'My Starbucks Rewards' and offering you a reward of a FREE ANYTHING IN THE STORE THAT YOU WANT (food or drink)!!!! Any size! Any number of add-ins! FREE FREE FREE! And then you spend three days figuring out what would be the most expensive combination of things on earth and plan to go get it for your Friday afternoon coffee break. FOR FREE!

Woo!- When it's Friday at long sweet last and even though the weekend may be interrupted by the husband working and rain, it's still gonna be weekend. There will be yummy food, tasty veggies from the garden, time with friends, and hopefully a couple solid hours of tennis.

Woo!- When you can convince your husband to join you for your lame selfie photo session in the car on the way to work. At a red light, of course.

  1. I think I will be the last childless person on the face of the planet with you. And that calls for a double UGH!!!

  2. Oh how I love you. I love the faces to go with ugh and woo! Perfection. So we should start a Last Childless People On Earth Club because you KNOW it's not just me and you (and apparently Aubrey, too).

Hope the rest of your weekend is all WOO, less UGH!

  5. I can totally relate to the husband working late bit - I have mostly adjusted, but when he stopped working for the state last year and moved to a private company, I got a rude awakening!

And might you be referring to R + F taking over your facebook newsfeed? Because it has for sure taken over mine, and though I still love (some of) the people that have jumped on that bus, the overkill still causes me a bit of rage on a daily basis!!!

  6. I agree with the MLM ugh. It seems like in the last week, I have been invited to all kinds of "parties" from people that would not normally invite me to their party but are willing to invite me so I will buy their product....ugh! Glad you have whoos to to balance out your ughs!

  8. Your WOO face..bahh!

I'm with you... the ughhs can get you down, and down, and down. And where did all the mushrooms came from? But thank God for the good stuff (like Friday, and overtime, and free coffee) because that's what gets us through these days!

  10. Even though I don't have near as much TTC time put in as you I feel like I will be in your Last Childless club as well. "Ugh" was how I felt for sure yesterday dealing with AF and of course all of the pregnancy updates (which honestly I am so very excited about for those that are having a baby). Thanking God for all of the blessings in our life "WOO"!! Hope ya'll have a great weekend :)

  11. Woo for free Starbucks! In a moment of curiosity, I googled "most expensive Starbucks drink" and discovered the quadriginoctuple frap at $47.30. It's something like 40 shots of espresso. You should try for 41 shots to beat the record, I mean if it's free and all!

  12. I am 100% in the club with you, Toast and Aubrey! Worst club to be a part of ever...

  14. I was feeling very UGH but this post made me feel WOO! You are my favorite! Enjoy your afternoon coffee and some cozy indoor time this weekend!

  15. I too was thinking this could totally be a link-up. For example: we had a date night last night - woo! We parked at the bank and I was wondering why so many cars were still there at 6:15 and J explained all the transition mess and I remembered Matt was probably there too and felt sorry for both of you - ugh. We had an amazing Last Resort dinner - woo! We went to the new theater to see a movie and discovered that the listed times had been wrong and no more movies started for 30 minutes and we had to be home before that would end so we left without seeing a movie - ugh.

    See? Totally relatable theme.

  16. I hear you on the products and such. We have a "friend" who is involved in some sort of pyramid scheme and she keeps posting all these videos/pictures etc. I still don't even know what it is all about, but I am afraid to ask.

Hope you have a "woo" day!

  17. Loved the "balance" in the this...may copy :-) And the last childless person will be me if our rough month is any indication :-( Totally feel you on the newsfeed with all the pyramid schemes too :-(

  18. I'm about to make your Friday even better: via SyFy - "It's true. #Sharknado will re-air on Thursday, July 18 at 7/6c. Don't miss out."

    ReplyDelete
  19. Also, I do believe I will outlast you on the "childless" front. There are some key components missing right now. ;)

  20. UGH - when you hear that your friend is feeling ugh.

WOO - for free Starbucks and the fact that it's almost the weekend!

P.S., we didn't get a single tomato this year (that wasn't eaten by a worm)--feel free to send some my way if you're up to your ears! :-)

  21. Ugh is right! Another round of baby announcements that we can't participate in. Infertiles unite!

    ReplyDelete
  22. This post is brilliant!!!, Love love love

    ReplyDelete
  23. This post is hilarious! Love the glass half full perspective! Happy Friday!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I love your perspective! Yea, I'm ready to join the infertiles who are now with child ... yyyyyesterday please!

  25. My very infertile friend gave birth this week - she ttc'd for 3 years & did ivf & then had the straight up miracle (after the ivf didn't work). They had a girl, and i am so ridiculously happy for them.

But still so afraid i will be childless forever. :( Or until i'm 70, which is basically the same thing?

YAY for your graphic design that they were madly impressed with! That is awesome!!

And free starbucks?! I am a member of the rewards thing. i want a free starbucks! :)

Your pics are too cute! Agree with the WOO on

  26. Totally get the "UGH" regarding the FB pyramid schemes that blow up your news feed. ENOUGH ALREADY.

And I also totally get the "UGH" when people announce a pregnancy and you are still not pregnant. It is weird to be on this side of the scenario (esp with no fertility meds or treatments) and I almost feel like I have betrayed my beloved infertility community. BUT, like you said, God has NOT forgotten any of us (you, me, blog buddies, etc) and the only thing I know to do is try to trust His timing and ways and know that some day, somehow, it will all make sense. Hugs to you, friend!!

  27. This was the perfect update for me to get back in touch with you and your blog! Love the hair and can't wait for your to have real beach waves in mexico!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I totally think this should be a link-up, complete with our best "ugh" and "woo" pictures. And since you are obviously a graphic designer with skillz you can make a super-amazing graphic for it too! I hope your weekend was more "woo" than "ugh."

    ReplyDelete
  29. Okay, the woo's are definitely outweighing the ugh's here. Glad to see it.

  30. "when previously quality and enjoyable (or at least tolerable) Facebook friends suddenly get involved with some MLM company and blow up your news feed shilling their wares and services and like just stop already." Ummm...YES. I love my friends, but if one more person tries to shill their Advocare, Pampered Chef, seaweed weight loss wraps, Baubles, Thirty One or something else, they are going to be hid from the newsfeed. But then again, I wonder if people feel that way about Elly in Bloom. That's why I have an author page and a personal page that are very different.

I love comments almost as much as I love Mexican food. Seriously.
