santa, robes, and water. lots of water.

We had a low-key and fun weekend- my favorite kind. Weekends can get a little hectic during the holidays, so it was nice to have one with no obligations and plenty of rainy weather that gave us a good excuse to stay in.

On Friday night we decided to be ambitious and take Mills to see Santa. He was making an appearance in our town's community center, about two miles from our house. We figured if it was a bust (and since it was during her normal nap-and-bottle time...it easily could have been), we'd head back home and try again another weekend. But as it turned out, Millie was perfectly happy to be handed off to a strange man in a very soft outfit.

Why am I wearing this bizarre outfit? Who is this person holding me? Was this sequined headband really necessary?
I was so excited to receive this extremely ruffled and fancy boutique Christmas tree bubble thingy at one of my showers. I'm not really a ruffles and boutique-y girl, and Millie's wardrobe reflects that...but Christmas is a great occasion to wear something a little out of the norm.

But when I went to put it on her, I was like...what is this outfit?? It's sleeveless (well, like kind of button-up overall thingies...with bows, of course), so I put a white long-sleeved onesie under it. But then the leg thingies are...below the knee but above the ankle. Like capris, but elasticized? Huh? I mean, it was cold and rainy outside. Bare legs weren't really appropriate, but I think tights would have looked really weird. Socks? I have no idea. So if her outfit is totally wrong, I take all the blame and am happy to return to the world of jeggings and moccasins, a land where I feel a lot more confident making choices.

Mrs. Claus looked kindly on as we shunned her in favor of the Mr.
It was the most painless Santa experience ever. There was no line- we walked right in and plopped her in his lap. There was no photographer, so I took my own (not amazing, but FREE) pictures with my phone. And even though Millie is clearly far too young to eat anything but milk, they still gave Matt and me a totally legit treat bag with an excellent candy selection inside.

My parents ate the candy Santa gave me. I will remember this for therapy one day.
All in all, a great first Santa experience. I'm sure next year she'll lose her mind and possibly care if we eat her candy (??? do one-year-olds notice this?), so I'm glad we really relished this year.

Saturday was delightfully uneventful. It rained. I went to the gym. We mailed our Christmas cards. I could go on, but you'd fall asleep.

I like how Matt's reading her really boring stories with no pictures (Aesop's Fables) and how she looks like she's so interested. That's sweet. She'll probably be the kind of person that acts interested when some random person at a party is telling a really long and boring story. I guess that's a good character trait...or something.

But then on Saturday night, we did get a little crazy. I remembered that there was a robe somewhere in our boxes of hand-me-downs...and there's no time like the present for some Baby in a Robe action!

First she laughed at the impossibly adorable baby in the mirror:

Aaaaand then she had a hoedown. Natural progression.

Matt and I watched Harry Potter movies 1 and 2 on Friday and Saturday nights! I borrowed the movies from a friend ohhhhhh, back in September...and didn't manage to watch any until now. But we loved them and can't wait to finish the rest now! Also, now I kinda want to reread the books...

Sunday was similarly uneventful. Millie hung out with one of her boyfriends at church. He likes a girl with good shoes, I guess. Couldn't keep him away from the shoes...

And I completed my first full week of successfully drinking a gallon of water a day.

I get a sparkly star sticker if I drink the whole gallon. I'm motivated by the same things as a four-year-old. I'm also motivated by the thought that maybe I'll miraculously lose 10 pounds or 10 inches or live longer or something, so that's another good reason to try. Anyway. After a full week of gallon-a-day-ing, I can report that I feel and look no different than I did last week. I just spend 20 times more time in the bathroom.

It's my birthday week, so I'm looking forward to reminding everyone incessantly plentiful celebrations! I also get to make a long-procrastinated trip to the DMV to renew my license, so I'm in the throes of my every-five-years ethical battle regarding how much to lie about my weight. Wish me luck!

  1. Sounds like a good weekend to me! And also, drinking water is about the only "healthy habit" that I'm able to do on a consistent basis, so thank you for making me feel like I'm doing something good by sticking with it, ha!

  2. Next year she may notice that she gets candy, but I bet she will only scream to have some right that instant and not notice if you eat the rest later. If she were say, 3.5, this would not be the case... she would remember that candy and ask about it constantly, maybe even months after is disappearance. Anyway, glad she was too young to care this year and had a good first experience with Santa!

  3. Cute Santa pic! And w2g about the water intake! Impressive. I used to be really good at drinking water all day, but the last month or so I just can't. I don't know what is wrong with me. Maybe I need a sticker chart??

  4. I'm impressed that you are drinking a gallon of water a day! I don't know that I could do that...wow! I love the Santa pics...we saw Santa this weekend too and Lilly was NOT impressed at all. Ha! Love your tree that I see in the background of one of your pictures! :)

  5. I admit - I am totally with you on the "fancy" outfits. I am always at a loss about what to do with longalls, peter pan collars, knee socks (and, yes, these are BOY CLOTHES). JB seems to be much more comfortable in nice jersey cotton. :)

BUT, Millie pulls off cute and fancy so well! Glad she enjoyed Santa!

  6. Millie is obviously cute in her Santa picture but I can't help but comment on your calendar! I love how you've put your stars in Roy G Biv order and how you and Matt each have your own colours for scheduling. Dave thought it was hysterical that you were giving yourself sparkly stars for drinking water but now I want to take up this challenge just so I can cover my own calendar in pretty sparkly stars too. #agallonadayforstars

  7. So glad your Santa visit was so successful! I'm wildly excited for ours on Sunday. I really don't know what the reaction will be...

Also, I used to think of Georgia as a "state I would consider moving to," but you just managed to talk me out of it. WEIGHT on driver's licenses? Oh, no. No, no, no. Here in Pennsylvania we are civilized and do not speak of such things.

    1. Don't come to Maryland either! They print that ish RIGHT on the front of your license. And it doesn't expire for 7 years!!! As a PA then Massachusetts girl, I had no idea, and did not know to lie. I won't even show my license to my husband now. Ugh.

    2. Hahaha yeah, I guess it keeps us Georgia residents from flashing our licenses around all willy-nilly!! Then again, all the numbers are lies, so it's not like anybody believes them anyway...(I think they teach you the thing about lying about your weight during drivers ed, maybe?? Ha.)

  8. How do you accomplish anything? All you should ever do is cuddle Millie! She gets more adorable with every post.
I think it's a good thing I don't live in Georgia. New York does not require weights on your license. Clearly if they did I'd weigh 110lbs!

  10. That is A LOT of water. How do you keep track that it is a gallon?

I have read you are supposed to drink half your body weight in ounces of water daily.

For example someone who weighs 140 lbs is supposed to drink 70 ounces of water a day.

  11. Wow that's a ton of water! I WAS in the habit of drinking like 64oz a day but I just can't seem to get back into it :( I LOVE the picture of them reading together, that has to be the cutest ever!

  12. 1 year olds don't remember much unless you make a big deal of it. So, next year, give her one piece, and hide/ eat the rest. She won't know. But if you start giving her one piece a day.... then you are in trouble :) Going through it right now!!! I have not attempted Santa yet this year. I am in a fight with hubs about who is going to hold her down and look like the evil monster in the photo and who is going to take the picture. Ha ha ha!

  13. Millie does not take a bad picture and I don't think she ever will! :) Such a little cutie!! I like how calm she is with Santa holding her haha. Hopefully they stay good friends :P Oh gosh those robe pictures! Why are miniature clothes just so cute?! Glad you're still loving HP and can never say again that you haven't read them!!!!

  16. So did you see that thing on FB about the girl drinking 3 gallons of water a day for like 4 months or something? Because I totally did and thought, I'm going to do it and lose so much weight and it will be awesome! And then I really figured out that I would have to drink like 16 camel baks a day and yeah... that awesome plan went out the window! ha! I'm just sticking with the recommended 8 glasses a day, which is still a vast improvement for me, so at least thats a win! (and I almost typed wine... so maybe it's not going as good as I thought!)

the baby robe. too much cuteness! I haven't been able to comment as much lately but I am so happy for y'all. what a fun season to celebrate! christmas takes on a whole new level of meaning as you cuddle your baby and think about the gift God sent us.
